The Sacrament of Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation of a catholic. The Catholic Church believes and teaches that Baptism is a sacrament, recognition of the life of Christ in the infant and a welcoming into this Christian faith and community. As a sacrament, it brings with it responsibilities and commitments to share the gift of faith. For an infant, that faith and commitment must come from the parents and sponsors.
The sacrament reflects the need for parents to publicly commit themselves to sustaining and nourishing the child's faith. It is this public decision of the parents, supported and modeled by the Godparents, following study and reflection that is celebrated.
Baptisms are scheduled on the second Sunday of each month after the 10:00 AM mass. In preparation of the sacrament, parents are required to participate in the Parent Preparation Program before the baptism of the child. Our Parent Preparation Program is held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM. Attendance at Sunday mass on the day of the baptism is a necessary part of the sacrament. Please call the Parish Office at (815) 725-1527 to schedule your child's baptism. We look forward to serving you.
